Driving the car down the interstate and noticed the po442 code. Cleared it and started it up but haven't driven it. Look up the code and it stated "evaporator emission system leak"
Anyone else have this come up? Car has 69,000 miles just changed the oil the day before.
It doesn't affect anything if you can clear it and it takes a while to reoccur. I had it for well over a year before it wouldn't reset for emissions testing. The other lower possibility is the evap purge valve on the firewall. It's just under the o2 sensor plugs. Carefully undo it, spray a bit of MAF cleaner in it towards the firewall, let dry a bit and plug it back in. The entire assembly looks like this, look for the "cylinder looking part =

Mr rx-7 tt, you will get this code if you like to fill your gas tank up to the very top. This will cause some fuel to run up the line to the purge valve and gum it up. Like Dell said, a little bit of cleaner and it will clear the code for you. Granted, this may also be a sign that your gas cap is having issues. So, it is a gamble as to which you do first. Also keep in mind that the check of the fuel tank only occurs when the gas tank is between 3/4 and 1/4. So, like was said, it may take a bit for it to come back in if you don't drive much and you just filled up the car.
I'll clean the purge valve as Dell suggested, I would bet that is the problem as I usually fill it up, all the way. Then I will get a gas cap. Hopefully that will fix the issue.
Thanks Dell and Chris for the education and the help.
