Default Power Window Wiring

Hello all,
Let me begin by saying I have used this site many times troubleshooting issues in the past but never registered and this forum has saved me immensely.
Now to topic. I am trying to figure out what wires do what job. If there is a wiring schematic anywhere that would be great. I have tried google everywhere and cannot come up with anything. (I need master switch wiring as well as passenger switches.)
Thank you in advance
Jessie

JLC, keep in mind that the wiring for power windows serves a dual purpose because the window runs in 2 directions (ie, the ground wire for the window going up is the power wire for going down). If you PM me your e-mail address, I will send you a copy of the wiring diagrams for your car in PDF format. I just need to know what year car you have so I send you the correct drawings (minor changes were made in mid 2004). If you have a 2004 car, inside the driver's door jam is the build date, I will need that too since there are 2 different diagrams for the 2004 model.

Thermo, I am not quite sure if i can PM yet due to my post count. Either that or this forum is set up different from other car forum sites I use.
However my car is 2002 X-Type 2.5L AWD automatic. "Premium package" It has door tweeters in all 4 doors and premium sound box in top of trunk/boot and disc changer in trunk/boot as well. (not sure if any of those options make a difference).

JLC, if you download the repair manual from the link above, that should have all the info that you need. If not, get a few more posts under your belt and then the PM ability should open up for you.

JaguarJackson, are you asking for a wiring diagram for your 2001 S-Type? I am not getting what you are asking for. If you need a wiring diagram, PM me your e-mail addy and I will send it your way.

If you are wanting to know the gauge wiring that you need to power the windows with, that is normally 18 gauge wire. The windows pull about 10 amps and that is going to be about the smallest you want to run and not have a serious voltage drop between source and motor. If you can run 16 guage, that would be better.

The two wires to the window motor are the yellow and white 12 gauge
And I’m trying to draw the power directly from the car battery

JaguarJackson, under normal conditions, both wires are grounded. If you want the motor to go up, you would need to break the ground connection to the yellow wire and replace the motor side with your 12 VDC from the battery. That will make the window go up. Conversely, if you break the white wire and apply the 12 VDC to the motor side, the window will go down.

If you are looking at putting in your own switch, then I would recommend finding a "momentary ON-OFF-ON switch" . This switch will need to be able to handle 10 amps at a minimum. These should be relatively available at most car parts stores. You would then wire it up per the below picture, just wiring it such that the red and black lines I have are your positive and ground with the orange line being the yellow wire and the green line being your white wire. This will make the window go up and down and make the necessary electrical breaks to prevent any shorts. You will also need to ignore pins 1, 2, and 3. I made this picture for something else. But, if you look at pins 4 thru 9, it will give you what you need to know.

To make the window roll up, you need to have the white wire wired to the batttery positive and the yellow wire wired to the chassis/battery ground. This is where using the ON-OFF-ON switch and crossing the wires like I did in the picture, going to one of the ON positions will cause the window to go up. The other ON position will cause the window to go down.
