Default Probably a simple solution for someone here??

Disconnected my battery, put a new alternator and battery in. Hooked it all up and now my radio does not work. (2002 xtype) Called the jaguar dealer and he said you only need the code if it is asking for a code. My radio doesnt turn on at all....it's like it's "dead." Anyone know what the issue is?
Thanks.

I think that all US cars were delivered without a radio code enabled but it is possible to activate the code requirement from the radio.

Try a cold boot by removing the negative battery cable from the post and touching it to the positive post. That will start everything anew.

If that doesn't work ask a dealer for the code using the VIN number. They may not know what you are talking about but their online system has access to that information even if they don't know how to use it.

Just to avoid potential embarrassment you might want to check the fuses first.

have you checked all the fuses? there is always a small possibility that a fuse could blow when reconnecting the battery. just a thought - could be a cheap fix but would only take 10 minutes to run through them.

if its asking for a code, you need it, check in your owners manual for the radio code written down or a credit card with the 4 digit #. You might be able to get the code from the dealer unless its been changed, in that case you need to pull the radio, get the serial number off the back and they can email Jaguar for the code
