Default Problem with ecu

Hi I am hoping that someone can help, yesterday my automatic x type suddenly stopped working.
I didn’t turn the ignition key for long enough to start the car and when I tried again it just won’t start and I’m getting clicking noises dash lights flashing but it just won’t start
I have tried putting the battery terminals together to drain the power and force a reset but that never worked either.
The engine management light is now on and I would really appreciate some advice.
Thanks,
lee

Could the clicking noises be because the battery is so low in charge to do more than just click the starter motor so that it will not engage?

Thanks Jackra,
Its amazing how some times we miss the obvious. Because it happened so suddenly and the fact that everything else still worked ie lights, alarm etc I naturally discounted that it might be the battery, however as soon as I jump started it she started straight up.
Thank you again for your advice it is very much appreciated.
