You could take it to a shop that customizes cars for starters... Pun intended.

Most push button starters are universal and easy to install by anybody who knows anything about wiring. Try ignitedperformance.com - they make nice ones.

It would be a momentary switch between the ignition and starter motor. Find the button you want and go to any decent stereo/alarm installer and they will make it look factory.

Ace, the question is really to what degree of function are you wanting this pushbutton to perform. If you want simply something to engage the starter motor and that is it, then that is very, very simple. If you are after something like what MB has in their cars where you just sit in the seat, push the button and everything else happens automatically, then you are talking about an expensive upgrade.

So, to what level are you imagining? Anything is possible if you are willing to spend enough money.

I guess the man wants something... that was once standard and always part of the Jaguar feature - I liked it on the the MKII and earlier S-Types.

Bring it back... I say.

Jaguar and my local mechanic recommend not to do this type of mod. Jaguar flat out refused saying it screw up the electronics in the key FOB and the alarm wiring, My mechanic, said the same thing as someone posted WHY? just to be cool is not a good reason to take on a project like this. Older cars that did not have a lot of electronic tied into the key fob, it would be very easy to wire, but today, unless your car comes with a push-button start it would be very difficult to do even with a wire diagram. Also, both Jag and my mechanic said you would still need to turn on the key so the button would work, it probably can't to be wired like a modern car which you only need to have the key FOB on your person to push-button the start.

It won't really mess anything up, it's just sort of a pointless mod. You're right, its not like you can just have they key in your pocket, push the button and off you go... You'd still have to stick the key in the ignition, turn it to the on position, then push the button to start the engine. It begs the question; if you've already stuck the key in the ignition and turned it- why bother with a push button ignition? Just turn the key another millimeter forward and fire it up the normal way.

I had one on my old track car because A) it was made by Weld Techniques and was super rare and cool and B) it acted as a kill switch which you need to have on the track.

Way back in the 60's I had a 59 MGA with push button start standed equipment. Also, in 64 or 65, I forget it been so long I bought a brand new Austin Healy 300 MK11 and it also had push button start. Both cars had keys as you had to turn on the electrics so the car would start and the key was also there so no one else but U can drive away with it. Today's cars with push button all you need is the FOB on your person and it will start. Tech and time go marching on.

I had a 62 Midget with a pull start....the key in my opinion is a huge improvement!

Smile Pushbutton Start

Last night I was watching a program about Aston Martin. The way you start a new one is the entire key FOB slides into the ignition and you push the FOB and the car starts, very cool.
