Default Question: Leaky Power Steering Reservoir?

Curious if this is normal? its been like this for years now. every now and then i wipe it down when i do oil changes and what not. is there a specific fluid i should put in there to replenish? or will any power steering fluid will do? also, how do i check the level?

i don't know if you guys can see from the picture posted above but its not a lot. just enough to leave residue on the reservoir.

funk, if the leak is that slow, then odds are, this isn't an issue and I would just wipe up the fluid and go from there. It sounds like to me that the seal on the cap is leaking and what you are seeing is the little bit of leakage past the cap. As for the specific fluid for the power steering, look at the cap and it will say what fluid needs to be added to the reservoir.

thanks thermo. i'll check the cap asap. also, when i do replace, what's the procedure? is it strictly add and put the cap on? and how do i check the level? thanks.

funk, yes, remove the cap, add in the fluid to the desired mark and that is it. Just make sure it is the correct fluid. As for the marking, as I recall, there is a stick built into the cap. At the end of the stick, you have a "hot" and "Cold" mark on the stick. Fill to the appropriate line. I am going off of memory, but once you see it, it will be pretty obvious where you need to fill it to. The big thing is add some, check the level, add more if needed, check again, repeat till at the desired level.
