Questions about '04 stereo... premium I think?
I've just gotten my hands on an '04 X-Type and I'm hoping to learn about it in general.
I believe it has the premium sound system with touch-screen NAV, CD, Alpine components in the doors and 2 6.5" subs in the rear deck.
I'm a bit of a car audio junky so I have a few questions that I'm hoping you guys will have the answers to!
How are the components in the doors crossed over? Are they like a standard set where they have an external passive xover?
Are the 6.5" subs in the rear deck amplified? If they are, do you know where the amp is hidden?
Do you know approxmiately how much power they get?
My first upgrade will probably be to change the subs so I want to be able to plan it out appropriately.
Thanks in advance!

JordyO,
Last year, I basically converted my non premium system to a slightly better than premium system. I used the factory Jag am that I got off ebay, changed all the door speakers and put a sub in the trunk. In order to add the amp to my car, I had to make wiring harnesses and figure out which wire is which.
Here's what I can tell you. The crossovers are NOT in the doors near the speakers. The crossovers are built into the amp and they have no adjustments. Like BuckMR2 says, the amp is behind the cd changer. I don't have the 6.5" subs in my car, but since you do, they are amplified as well from that same amp.
Since you are a car audio junky, you should know the jag system will more than likely be different than what you are used to. The factory head unit sends the audio signal to the amp via a fiber optic cable. The amp then obviously sends the amplified audio out to the speakers. The fiber optic cable is one big loop that goes from the radio to the amp, cd changer, navigation, etc, and then back to the radio.
Considering all the speakers that little amp is powering, I have to say I am impresed with it. I have a 10" sub in the trunk and the amp does a decent job with it.

03 sys upgrade
I also did an upgrade to my 03 x-type: changed out stock 6.5 Sub to Kicker 08CVT65, front/rear comp. to Infinity Referance ran all of these off a 5ch amp. Rubicon and adde a 10 inch Kicker DVC Sub ran off a Memphis 1000D all of this was made possible by the connection of a AudioControl LC8i processor so i keep my stock Premium Touchscreen Head Unit.

Well I want to completely remove my factory premium system (no touch screen LCD) and speakers.
I want to use Alpine Head Unit with my iPod and do new door speakers and amps and do a sub + amp. What do I need to do? I've been confused about this for weeks and haven't really gotten a clue on how or what all is involved.

The biggest headache you'll have is getting that piece that replaces/fit the new unit in, there are some blogs and pictures here that people did, looks good but I recall the article saying it was a little hassle getting. PM me and i can go into detail on the other stuff. Look under articles of upgrading stereo/replacing stereo for the pics. Don't forget to PM me.
