Question Questions about fitting a Touch screen

Hi there everyone!

I`ve spend hours with browsing trough post about fitting a touch sreen unit into X-types but I would still have a few questions for you guys if you don`t mind.
I`m wondering if it`s possible to fit the touch screen unit without the actual sat nav module and the dvd rom, as I wouldn`t use it for navigation anyway, but I would love to get a nice and tidy touch screen instead of the forest of buttons on the middle console!
I`ve already have the right touch screen module with the windshield heating button.
In my understanding i will definetly need a RCC module and a custom wiring loom to connect it to the touch screen. My car is fitted with the auto climate controll module.
I found a "how to make the wiring loom" pdf, but unfortunately it`s far too complicated for me...
I`m wondering if anyone could sell me one of those for a reasonable price...
Sorry if this topic is already covered!
Thank you very much!

Hi G1985,
I am in the middle of a Sat Nav retrofit to my X-type Jag as i havent got all the parts.
To answer your question you cant just decide you want a touch screen just because you dont want to use buttons, the sat nav touch screen is designed to work with a dvd module, fibre optic harness, satnav harness, GPS antenna, heater module as minimum package others can be added like cd changer, steering controls and bluetooth/phone. You might as well get the minimum package, because its not a plug and play system and even if you dont use navigation its there for you. Mine came as basic stereo head unit and i have added a cd changer to it which i am enjoying at the mo. Good luck

I am not sure if this will work within my existing wiring system because i have the basic heater/ac without heated front windshield and its grey, whilst your unit is black. It will distort the appearance. Looking at it again are you sure its black and not a dark grey shade as i can see from your pix. Please confirm.

The earlier models were dark grey, later (Facelift in UK) were lighter grey almost silver! And as said above the Screen is a slave unit, all the display graphics comes from the DVD drive in the boot(trunk)

Hi euanT,
Yeah you are correct, my X-type is the earlier version without satnav, cd changer and Bluetooth/phone, which is grey in colour, but depending on how one sees colours it may appear a little dark or a little light.

Well I never had a chance to try it but I bought it as a fully working unit,so it have to work. What I can offer is if you wish to purchase it and it isn`t working, I`ll pay you back (the full amount), you send it back to me and I`ll try to contact the seller. But lets cross that bridge when we get to it! What would be the offer?
