Default radio

Hey im looking to upgrade my radio to a double din unit, maybe with a nav.
I was wondering how hard something like this would be to install because id like to do it myself. Id be getting all the parts from crutchfield.com.
These are the units i was looking at:

I just had an Apline INA-900 installed in my 2002 X-Type, I pick it up on Friday. You need to be pretty mechanically and electrically inclined to do this yourself. I added something like this to another car a few years back with the help of a buddy and it took us all weekend. This time I opted to have a professional install it, it was only a couple hundred to have it installed.

it isn't a huge deal to install, BUT there are other pieces involved. If you want to keep the switches on your steering working you need and adaptor, you'll need the X-Type wiring adaptor unless you want to cut into the stock wiring harness, you need an antena adaptor because our antennas are europian. You need the double din adaptor from Metra or one of the other companies, make sure you get one that is the right color for the dash, to fit everything as well as a surround plate. Also take into account you are severely limited to space behind the radio. Anything over I believe 7.25" deep and it will stick out.

If you have the premium stereo package there is more involved because you have to connect to the factory amp. The audio / video section here has tons of information.

Thanks sidewalkman, I think the website offers all that instillation gear for free. I don't have the premium stereo package, so instillation should be pretty straight forward?

It will be straight forward but I doubt the stuff is free, definately not the fascia for our car, they don't sell it, look to Metra or someone. Do a search for double din and there are a bunch, 1 company makes the exact color match, or else the rest are black and lookk like s*** unless you paint it. Crutchfield might throw in the antenna adaptor and wiring adaptor, but check first, and the same search will turn up the steering wheel adaptor, it alone is around 70-100.00

They're offering one for free, thats at least what it says. I doubt it matches though... so the metra would match?

One of the ones does, can't remember if it's Metra or not. Look for one that is Charcoal
