Rear bumper question...
Hi,
I have a 53 plate X-Type, and have just had someone decide to embed his Rover into the back of it!
The damage isn't too bad, but it will need a new bumper. Currently the rear bumper has body colour inserts, and I was going to take the opportunity to change these for the chrome ones. However, I'm now wondering if I could have the 2008 model rear bumper fitted instead, as these have integrated parking sensors, instead of the horrible plastic strip at the bottom of the bumper.
Does anyone know if this is possible? Has the body been changed as part of the update?
Thanks,
Tony

RE: Rear bumper question...
most readers dont know what 53 plate means.. neither do I. I know that in the UK you somehow dont like to use model years..
There was a rear bumper with parking sensors for every model year, so I dont know why you are complaining about it now? you could have added the sensors at any time.
I think the newest bumper does look nice, and for sure you can add chrome.... you must have the sport package, that is quite nice to have, and most future buyers will want the chromeless look. Keep that in mind.

Hi Tony welcome to the forum
(53 plate means registered 1 Sept 03-29 Feb 04)
I work at an insurance approved bodyshop.
If your claiming on insurance the insurance company will onlyput back on what was there before the accident unless you have informed them of any modifications. As thisisnt the case you may be able to pay the difference between the old style parts and the new style parts if you can negotiate with them(depends on insurance company). If you're going through an insurance approved bodyshop talk to them about it.RememberYOU have the choice of which bodyshop your car goes to and your insurance company must accept this.
I would expectthe new style bumper should be a straight swap as changes were onlycosmetic.
Good luck

what does registration date have to do with when the car was actually manufactured? there can be months and months of delays?

UK number plates are used to show a period when the car was registered not manufactured (unless its a private plate).
There can be a short period between the 2 dates or in extreme rare cases years like this one...
I heard at our local Jag club meet a few months ago when John Butterworth brought his XJ220
that one XJ220 owner hasnt even registered his car yet (its stored)!
