Default Rear pads and that dot/nub

What is the reason for the dot on the rear pads? There is one on all 4 pads. Should there be and doesn’t it restrict the piston from spinning out as the pads wear down?

The piston doesn’t spin out, the dot holds it in one position so that the threaded rod inside pushes the piston when its rotated by the ratchet in the handbrake mechanism.

So, with what is said, you should have aligned the dot with the recess on the piston (as I recall from many years ago).. The piston needs to be prevented from rotating.for the rear of the car.

Thanks guys! I aligned it with the piston. Just was a little confused about that dot! Good to know.
