Rear parking sensors
Hi, sorry if this has been spoken about before, although I did search through previous threads with no joy.
My car, 2006 X-Type 2.0 diesel, has developed a parking sensor problem. It doesn't do the few second warning tone, instead it acts like I'm about to hit something in reverse but nothing is there. I've tried doing the 'listening test' on each sensor, but they all make a clear rapid ticking sound, checked the connections on each sensor and the main unit in the boot, all clean and dry, but still this incessant beeping is happening. It's almost as if someone keeps running to the back of the car and away again in no set pattern. Also checked both reverse lights are working too.
Would be so greatful if someone can help please.
Many thanks, scot

Scot-cov, would you happen to have something loose on the back end of your car that may be getting within "view" of the sensors. That would cause the system to activate like you are seeing. After that, do you notice it every time or only when you are parking at a certain spot? If it is only at certain spots, it may be that you have say a sensor that is putting out "too much sound" and it is confusing the car and the echo that it is getting would then make the system think the object is much closer than it really is. You can try parking the car and putting it in reverse to get the system active. Then take say a cardboard box (30x30CM in size) and slowly walk towards the rear of the car in line with the sensors. You should hear the sensors all start chiming at roughly the same distance away. If there is one that picks you up much sooner, that is your problem child. If it is only doing it in select locations, then you have something that may be moving too much and triggering the system (tree branch, etc).
