Rear Wheel Bearing Cost Estimate
Hello guys.
since a week the car(jag x type 2.5 AWD 2003) has developed a humming noise from the back.
I thought I was unlucky enough to have a faulty differential but yesterday went in an Autohaus and they diagnosed bad bearings
As I understood the jaguar rear wheel bearing are an assembly.
The Autohaus estimated the cost of repair around 1000 Euro for both sides, of which 523 euros on parts and 450 euros labor cost. The estimated working time would be 3 hours and a half for both bearings.
As for the parts I know that sng barrat for sure provides them cheaper, but what about labor time, is this accurate?

That's awfully expensive, SKF bearings are 115 euros each at Mister Auto.

Remove wheel, remove brake caliper, remove 4 x torx bolts, use a puller to pull hub off driveshaft.
Fit new hub with 4 torx bolts, replace caliper and wheel - job done.
Not a long job for a garage.

I thought that the price was a little bit out of reality but now I understand that was really quite a difference. Especially the time estimation is really a lot.Should the caliper be replaced as well during this job?
Unless you are having problems with sticking brakes I would leave the calipers on. Also forgot to mention that the brake discs have to be removed but they just slide off once the caliper is removed.
