Rearview Mirror Question

Rearview Mirror Question
I have not been active in awhile simply because the car has been driving great! Lately though a few issues have come up I am trying to sort out.
The rear view mirror in my car has most likely been replaced with a cheaper version. Might have been due to a broken front window!. I am not sure but I know it happened before I got the car. I have found the 5 wire connector under the headliner as well as this strange looking sensor...
Any ideas as to what this sensor might do? Do I just need to change the mirror to the auto dimming one to have some increased functionality? According to my cars spec sheet I should have the auto headlight feature as well as the rain sensor. Is it easy to change the rear view mirror? Do you see any issues?
Just looking for some help! Thanks

Can I ask if just sticking this back on the window would allow the rain sensor to function correctly or is it part of a more complex system??? Do I still need other parts? I would just like to get this feature working? Do I need a new front windshield or just a sensor? Another quick question, does the mirror contain sensors that turns the automatic headlights on as well or is that part of another system?
Thanks
Thanks
