Default Recommended tires 2003 X Type 2.5

Guys,

Okay, I am getting annoyed with the darn whirlingtire noise. According to theuser manual these are the recommended tires;

Inside of the fuel filler flap these are the recommended sizes;
P205/55 R16 and P225/45 R17.

On the User manual, it recommends P205/55R16 91H Continental ContiTouring or P225/45R17 91H continental ContiTouring

The dealer i purchased my car from has put newDunlop SportA2Plus tires - P205/55R16 89H M+S.

Do you guys think I should change the tires? Whatelse couldbe causing this noise that is annoying as heck. The whirling noise is at all speeds.

Also, around 55mph, the car starts to vibrate/shake. It seems like it is coming from the front tires, but i believe the tires were balanced. What do you guys think this might be?

Cmon BuckMR2, Racer and Jim. Please help out.

Yep, they are 16s. The brakes are good. No shaking when i break. The whole car seems to shake. Maybe it is the suspension/shocks. I don't know if the rotors are a problem. I just don't know....

Hey there Dunhill, re the road noise!
Tyres are a really personal choice, everybodys got sumthin good or bad to say about one tyre or another. Me personally? I've had some real bad experiences with Dunlop Sports about 4 years ago..I swore to never use them again and haven't even looked at one since.
I had real bad road noise from them, but, I also found them to be terrible in the wet or even damp conditions and actually had a bad accident which I partially blamed the tryes for as I had been having problems for months previously, but had decided to "wear them out" before I got a new set.
I use Pirelli P Zero's Assimetricos and find them as quiet as any I have tried with combination of good road holding and decent wear life. Others will I'm sure recommend other brands etc, check them out and make your own decision in the end. Why not take all the replies you get and keep them in yur head, ask a tyre expert what he thinks, and even what he runs. Try if from there,but it may be still be trial n error!
Re the car vibrating / shaking at speed..........more than likely has to be wheel balancing. It may have been balanced and one or more of the weights have come off, or just not been balanced well to start with. I'd check it out as soon as!

Hey Dunhill mate,
if the discs (rotors) were warped, causing a problem, you'd feel it big time whenever you were braking, so you've obviously ruled that out!

I have Kumho Solus tires also. I have about 3000 miles on them.
They have worked well in light snow, feel good on wet pavement and alot quieter then the Contis.
I'd buy them again.
Jim C is right about trial n error!
Lots of opinions out there.
Good Luck

thanks guys. I guess i will wear them out for a while and then get new ones. Another thing i was thinking is the dealer gave me the receipt showing where the tires were purchased from. Maybe i can go back and tell them they suck and get something different. I don't mind paying the difference if the cost is minimal

Well I suppose you can do that..but have them check the tires again to be sure they are balancd. Also, as an FYI, AWD vehicles tend to make some kind of road noise at speed, most don't notice it due to their radio being on....since the radio "adjusts" itself to your speed, meaning the volume goes up automatically, you tend not to hear the road noise. I have the factory conti's and they too make the noise. If you do a search here, you'll find that most people complain about the tire noise.....

thanks racer. I will have them checked to see if tires are balanced. Yes, the radio does that, similar to the Beamer i had previously.

Hey dunhill I was just curious as to what cars you usually drive? If you drive mostly american cars most of them (unless they come with 17" or bigger rims stock) have a 50 series tire or taller. My 97 monte carlo had 225 60 16's stock. I later purchased a set of 18' albas for it. They were 225/45 18 (I'm pretty sure.) The difference between the two tire selections were drastic. If you aren't used to the european cars with the lower profile tires it will take a while to get used to. Not only is it more rough you will notice every part in your cars suspension get torn apart on these horrible roads! I hope I'm not posting all of this for nothing! Though if you did have the tall tires we have here in the US and took our cars over to the roads that don't have speed limits 100mph would be a blast-NOT!

They had the latest Mustang (Shelby) GT 500 on Top Gear last night.............a bit of a beast. Good in a straight line but terrible in the bends, got a live rear axle causes real probelms combined with the power.
Funny thing is, its called the GT 500, supposedly due to its bhp, but, they tested it and found it only had 425bhp[&:].......Whats wrong with that picture???
Looked really mean though...........nice car.

I believe that it's 500 hp to the engine but 425 to the wheels!

Did any of the cars have low profile tires dunhill? Never owned anything but american cars so I don't really know what any of those cars have as far as insulation to block sounds from the exterior. I know my second uncles lexus was AWESOME for not being able to hear anything! Even at 70 no wind noise at all compared to american. He'd floor it and you could barely hear a thing just feel it in the seat of your pants! Yeah racer the new impalas have v8s in them but they make them with variable valve timing which gives it better gas mileage I'm pretty sure chevy or gm calls it displacement on demand or something like that. 4 cylinders drive the car down the pavement when the other 4 aren't needed! I think it came out in 06 with the dod system and the v8. Pretty sure it was like a chevy 5.3 liter. Heard it was pretty quick with 60mph times less than 6 seconds! Love the ss's wish I would have bought the 00' monte ss I wanted~!
