redrum redrum redrum
So back to my hood......
As you know I asked about the rust bubbles along the right seam of the hood, and a dealer (200km away) - cuzI was working near there in the fall, agreed to replace the hood for me.
4 months later ( and many phone calls)!! they finally decide to do it..
I pick up the car and go over it with the service manager. I note that:
first there is a dent!
second the colour is not great,
third that there is no seam sealer along the edge
fourth the inner liner is hanging down on the engine
the dealer just shrugged and begrugingly fixed the sagging liner.
he suggestedI contact the field service engineer to discuss the rest.
wellI talked to the fse and he promised to look into the seam sealer issue to check if they put a jobber hood on or what.
now about 7 weeks have passed, and never a call back. 2 weeks ago I started to call Jag Canada and a lovely woman there promised to get resolution withing 2 business days.
I did get a call from a dealer 400 km a way and they figured they got the case by mistake and told me they would deal with Jag Canada.
Now today I called and called Jag Canada to say wtf is going on .. been months of non-response and non-comittal to their promises.
Finally some other supervisor tell me Jag can put whatever hood they want on the car and as long as the car was still driveable that they have done their job. they tell me if I have any further issue I should contact the dealer ..
I complained that over 2 months ago that was exactly the starting pointand that dealer already has shrugged off the issue. they said too frigging bad.
Next I went to the local body shop ( my city is about 300k people ) ( there is only one shop that does the euro car body work) that handles Jag and I asked the owner of the body shop what he thought of the replacement hood.
He noticed the colour was not good from 10 paces.. then he saw the dent at about 5 paces. I asked about the seam sealer. and he told me this:
for him to be allowed to do dealer repairs.. he must send 2 guys a year to Jaguar for official training. it cost him 1000 dollars a person for this.
he tells me the jag hoods come without the seam sealer and that they have specific instructions on how to apply it. He said they are well aware of the x-type corrosion on the hood and that they have been instructed to coat all areas under the hood with special wax stuff too. (missing from my car).
He said the job was clearly shoddy and that a Jag owner should expect a perfect repair. he encouraged me to push the dealer to get things right.
can you believe all this.... how on earth can jag ever fix their reputation?

Hey Bo sorry to hear about that man...sucks they are dealing with it like this...hopefully it gets better man...don't know how it works up your way but could you threaten with a lawyer and have that service shops name and stuff on document stating what he told you THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING? Did or does your hood look like mine...if you look closely to the pictures my engine bay is a different tint than the whole car not sure if jag decides to stop with the whole metallic and what not in the hood or what...the carfax was clean on my car too!

Does if you live here in Michigan! You see anything like that its 100times worse the next winter! You'd have to be here to understand! Its bubbling but you can't really see it in the pic...it wouldn't bother me if it were in the engine bay as nobody will see it but if i'm going to be driving this car and that bloody orange crap is anywhere in sights distance SCREW THAT! I'm worried cuz its heading to the top of the hood!

Its not that it looks bad but who knows where its already at? Who knows where it'll go? Soon as I saw the smallest dime sized rust spot on my truck by the next month the whole front fender in front of the doors the whole area towards the bottom was totally rusted! The beginning is part of the end! You guys not get rust over there Jim? Michigan is salting king of the US come winter time!

hey, my rust was exactly in the same place and it was a little worse.. it had bubbled up to the topand maybe a nickle sized rust bubble on the top surface.
It is normal that the non-showing surfaces dont have the metallic paint. that is how they do it at the factory.
even the inside of my replacement hood was not painted with metallic.. just the base colour.

Thats what I figured but everyone on here when I first got the car thought it was strange...the picture I posted was crappy but its bubbled right up to the edge of the hood and its heading to the top of it...you know how rust is just because it isn't up there doesn't mean its not heading there! Seems like a common problem if its in the same spot! Do they or rather are they supposed to fix this you think or am I just blowing it out of proportion? And since nobody else things the rust is bad this question is directed to bo! [8D]
