Thumbs up Repair Bill from Heaven...

After reading every other thread here about preventative maintenance, I decided to do a few "do-it-yourself" jobs to my 2002 X-Type 3.0.

I went to my local auto part shop with the "INTENTION" to buy the following:

* Air Filter
* Cabin Filter
* Fuel Filter

When I was at the checkout counter, it dawned on me that I am "Helen Keller" when it comes to auto mechanic skills...so I asked the guy if he knew anyone that could install the Fuel Filter? He told me the local Aamco guy was where he sent all his customers.

So I drove right over to meet him. Discussed what I wanted to do and said he can do it for me right away. What I really liked is that he walked me around the car, inspecting every inch of the car...he even walked me around the car when it was on the lift...which allowed me to REALLY learn about my Jag.

After about a 30 min discussion, here is what we agreed to do:

* Install Fuel Filter: $22.50 (paid $10 for the actual filter)

Package #1
* Drain / Refill Transfer Case
* Drain / Refill Rear Differential
TOTAL: $89

Package #2
* Full cleaning of Fuel Intake system
* Install Air Filter (I purchased for $14)
* Install Cabin Filter (I purchased for $26)
* Install Rear Driver Side Brake Light Bulb (Charged me $3 for bulb)
* Drain/Refill Power Steering Fluid
* Inspect all wiring for frays/cuts
* Inspect Motor Mounts
* Inspect Exhaust
TOTAL: $89

TOTAL BILL FOR ALL THE ABOVE: $215 (add $50 for the parts I purchased at the Auto Shop and brought to Aamco)

Is it me or was this the Repair Bill from Heaven...??

I will sleep like a baby tonight knowing that my Jag was well taken care of today...

Mayor, those are actually good prices. The only thing that makes me question anything is how he filled the transfer case. You can't fill the transfer case using a normal method. So, unless the guy is very familiar with the X-Types, most mechanics wouldn't know what to do. I'm not questioning the guy, but sometimes you have to ask some probing questions.
