Default Replacing Drivers Door Speaker

I've got an 02 X-Type with the Navigation system/Cassette in dash. While listening to my Ipod using a cassette adapter, it suddenly made a high pitched squeal and blew my drivers door speaker. The passenger door speaker is fine, but I will most likely be replacing both at once. Since I have the navigation system, do I need to purchase a special speaker for the doors that works with the fiber optic cabling? Or is it a simple go to best buy and buy a set and replace the stock ones? Sorry if this has been covered previously, but I did not come across anything in the Tech section. What size speakers do I purchase, any suggestions as to type, and do I need any special connectors? Thank you.

One thing i noticed in your assessment that it made a squealing sound??? you should look at your ipod adapter for that. Ill post more later, when i get a chance.

Your speakers are simply that speakers, speakers do not run off of anything fiber optic, fiber optics are for transferring data and communication, not for speaker outputs.

If you want to post your location (or general area) i would rather you goto a shop that deals with this stuff everyday, versus Best Buy. While Best Buy may have okay pricing, and there are SOME good installers there, the not-so-knowledgeable FAR outweigh the knowledgeable. Feel free to PM me if you need anything further.

I replaced the cassette adapter and there is no more squealing sound, but my speaker seems to be permanently damaged as any volume above normal is now distorted on the driver's side. Do I need to by a certain type of speaker? (ohms?) Also, if I have the navigation do I necessarily have the premium sound system? I didn't see any subs on my rear decklid, only vents and the baby seat attachment. How hard is it to replace the speakers in the door? Any special connections or do the new ones fit where the old ones were without a wiring harness? As strange as it may seem, I have never replaced speakers, but I have installed many aftermarket CD decks and subs/amps before hand.

It depends on your stereo, but typically car speakers are 4 ohms. Home stereo speakers are 8 ohms. Just pull out the old speaker and look on the magnet. It'll tell you what it is.
