Replacing Subwoofers in Premium Sound
Has anyone replaced them? What have you used?
I was thinking of putting in a pair of JL 6W3v3-4s, but they need to be ported or sealed. I am sure I can figure out a way to attach an enclosure to the deck. Is anyone running these? Did you build a box?
Lastly, what wattage is being pushed to each sub by the factory amplifier? I want to say that I read 50 watts per sub somewhere before.
Thanks for the help!

91, I'm not sure if this is of much help but the shelf speakers are not standard size. They're either a little larger than 6.5" or between 6" & 6.25", I don't remember which, so for whatever application you go with you'll want to make sure to get some brackets that'll adapt to the stock openings and the aftermarket speakers. I think you are right in that they get about 50watts a piece though. I have Alpines and I imagine yours are the same.
I discussed in another post what was an easy option to upgrade the stock subs and in discussing with Thermo we concluded running the stock wiring to a high level input converter, like an Audio Control, and running RCA's from that to an aftermarket amp would be the least complicated approach. Although that's if you plan to stick with the stock deck.
I've looked at, and also want to use, the JL speakers, but I run into the same problem as you do. An alternative I've considered is Kicker has some freeair 6.5 that seems to be well received, although I've never heard them installed. I think they are CompRT or CVT or something. They made some old school freeair 6.5 called "Kicker Freeair F6.5" that I used awhile back and they sounded pretty good for a smaller than 8" sub. I imagine today's options have come a long way and wouldn't disappoint......knock on wood.
