Default Reprogramming ECM

Hi, I recently programmed three new transponders so I could have two extra keys. I used IDS/SDD v1.30 with a Mongoose Pro. The car started fine with all three keys, however when clearing a generic (historic) fault code, the ECM got bricked for some bizarre reason. It really is unresponsive to anything.

Owing to the fact that I needed the car daily, I decided to swap out the ECM, GECM & IC, along with a matching transponder. The car drives fine again, however I hadn't realised that I'd bought my used ECM from a car with automatic transmission. Since my car has manual transmission, I now have a permanent 'TCM' fault and TCM 'Comms' fault of course! ABS is fine, but TC is not.

I'm wondering if it's possible to re-program the ECM, so that it reverts back to the original VIN with MT, and not AT. Perhaps I need a higher authentication level for the IDS session in order to flash the VID blocks? I'm in unchartered territory, apart from understanding how the electronics work. My local college has one of the best Jag technicians in Britain, so I'm thinking of asking them if they'd like an interesting project for the students!

I read the following post, however it wasn't clear as to whether or not X400 ECMs are partially burned-in (E.g. VID blocks only) or whether they are fully programmable, and so I felt as though the main question was unanswered.

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Dave, the ECM should be able to be fully programmed. I think your best course of action would be to stop by the college and see what they can do for you. Not being familiar with what IDS can and cannot do (which most people are not familiar with), it is hard to say whether you can or not. I would think that you should be able to as the IDS program is supposed to be a "dealership level program". So, if the dealership or college can do it, IDS should be able to do it.

OK, thanks very much. I'll arrange for it to go in.

Cheers,
Dave
