Reverse Gear Fix?

From what you are describing, the band has completely let go or the reverse solenoid is toast. Unfortunately, the only way to fix this is to open up the tranny and see what you see. If it is just a solenoid issue, the tranny can remain installed and you will be out the door for fairly cheap. If it is a band that has gone, plan on spending another $1000-2000 to have them pull the tranny and do the necessary work.

You may get lucky and the fix will be simple. But, normally with a problem like you are describing, plan on putting down some good money to get it fixed.

I don't want to sound negative, but sometimes reality is what it is. HOpefully you got the car for a steal and this will not be that big of a thing in the big picture.
