Default Reverse switch location?

Hello all, I just ordered a back-up switch from JPAM Porsche/Jaguar. I know the switch is located on the trasmission (in my case a 5spd) I was just wanting to know exactly where? Also is it accessable without a 3-elbowed arm?

It will be nice to have reverse lights and my rear park alert system working again.

Thank you!

Look down between the battery and the engine under the coolant hoses. Easily accessible. Do not overtighten it.

Thanks FJT, would it be easiest to gain access from the top or bottom? Does the battery have to come out?

I believe the torque spec is 15ft/lbs for the switch. I have it written down in the garage off of my JTIS CD.

From the top for sure. Get a flash light and kind of pull the hoses forward a bit. You will see the switch. Do it while the car is cold.

Thank you, I will give it a whirl when I get the switch in. Will a socket fit over the sensor, or is a wrench or crows foot a better suit?

Deep socket will fit. I forget what size.

Thank you for the picture!! [sm=smiley20.gif]
Does not look to bad to get to. I have some really long extensions and deep well sockets as well.

Dennis, thank you for looking. I could not find anything on it other than the torque spec info. I am most appreciative of the information this forum willingly devouches.

Thank you again everyone!

Thanx for the info in this thread, I am sure I will find it very useful in a few minutes back out in the garage. JTIS didn't help much.
Though the photo is no longer available.

Switch problem confirmed. It measures about 300 ohms when actuated. A jumper in the connector and the reverse lights light up like a bright summers day

Just my tuppence. . . But you need to note the space is a bit tight and its easier with closed end spanner than a socket because there is an engine mount almost inline with it above. Also as I discovered the plastic can be very brittle on the cable connector but it is still a snug fit even if the plastic lock lug breaks off. I know this as I changed it on my 2.5 manual today as part of servicing. Hadnt worked for a year so well overdue being replaced. Only £7 odd for the switch too.

On my 2.5 it was a really easy job to remove the switch using a long socket and extension. Can't imagine any other way would be easier

Default Finding a Reverse Light Switch Part

Thanks for all of the great info. on installing a new reverse light switch. However, I am still looking for the part itself because I don't want to pay $125 (that's what my local mechanic told me it would cost him to get it from the dealer). I've seen online parts for around $10! Does anyone have a resource for me? I'm in the US in Minnesota. Even with shipping, it seems like it would be less expensive to buy it from the UK....

Yeah, even though it's a frequent ford part it doesn't seem to be available on ebay in the states. Unless it's called something else than "reverse light switch" over there

Otherwise you can get it from here at about a fourth of the price incl. shipping

Default Reverse Light Switch

Same thing happened to me. I checked the fuses and bulbs. I'm not very technical so i was relieved to see the switch was easy to get at. I bought the switch for £9 at a local car parts shop and changed in in 5 minutes. Big relief as that is what it was. Happy Days
