Does anyone know if the seat-belt retractors on our X-Type are common to another car....a Ford product, for instance

 

Robert, they are common to the Ford Modeo. But, for something that is sold in the US, you can try either a Lincoln LS or a Ford Focus. Both of those may be fairly close. Note 100% sure though. I would say to get the one out of your car and then do a little bit of looking around in the local wrecking yards. I'm sure you can find something.
