Rodent Visit
Some creature crawled in above the engine while the car (2005 Sportwagon 3.0) was parked outside and chewed off the black facing of the insulation mat on the firewall. About 12x6 inches worth along the top right side corner. The mat is still one piece and attached but the inner fuzz is exposed and shedding. I did use some 3M spray glue to reattach a partial flap of the outer layer but the rest is just gone.
I'm looking for advice on a substitute material to cut out and glue over the rest. The 3M glue seems to saturate and hold pretty well but I don't think tape will attach well to the fuzzy stuff.

If it is indeed the hood liner contact fellow member "gonzo": Aircraft firewall material hood liner pad for Mustang, Corvette, Grand National, many other cars you will NOT be disappointed!

Thanks guys but it's not the hood liner.
It's the insulation blanket attached to the firewall (vertical, rear of engine compartment). It does not appear to be replaceable without pulling the engine - which is not happening at this time. It's made like a sandwich - coarse brown fiber between two thin solid black layers. The mat remains in place but has had its outer solid facing chewed off in one area and that allows the coarse fiber insulation material to shed into the engine compartment.
I'm just looking for a way to glue a new facing onto part of the existing fiber matting.
