Default Rust on hood

Hello all, I had been noticing the rust getting a little worse here on the right side of my hood. Aquill, it is right in the same spot your is at.

The rust never showed through before, and when I was putting on my spring application of washing, clay bar, polishing, and final sealant I noticed this area of the hood getting worse. I have owned the Jag since January 2008 and I did not notice at the time, but that could have been due to the factthe car had a failed hood latch and I could not open the hood. On the day I picked up the car the hood latches were replaced but I may have overlooked this area for inspection.

Other than this spot the car is rust free. I have looked underneath as well.

My question is from reading JVEGAS's thread on his rust saga is the Corrosion Warranty start on the date of build, or date the car was sold?

My X-type was build in 08/2001
It was sold from Howard Orloff Jaguar on Sept 29, 2001

Might I have any fighting chance of getting this covered by my local Jagaur dealer??
TIA!!

That sucks ...But I'm sure a more expert eye can tell you like Buck...But to me, it looks like the hood had been repaired for some reason before and what you're seeing is the areas that get the least attention as far as prepping for painting...

i would contact FJT and give him your VIN, he can tell you when the warrenty ends. If it si still good then they have to fix it. Have you ever brought this to Jaguars attention before? Who fixed your hood before?

Welcome to the club.

I'm getting mine fixed this week, but not really by choice. My sister backed into my car in the driveway, and buckled the hood/broke the grill. The body shop noted the rust on the hood, and is going to take care of it. Also, the bump jarred the headlights enough to break the adjustment tabs on both sides ( ), so it'll be getting new headlights too.

a body shop guy I meet told me that he converted normal headlights on the X-Type into factory HID's.... not related to anything in this post but I thought it was pretty cool!

According to my carfax which was full of dealer scheduled maintence there was never any sign of accidents or repair. I have all records and reciepts since the car was new and there is no record of pain/body repair.

The left side of the hood has some similar bubbling, but is not nearly as bad! The hood had 18 or so rock nicks and chips, some where touchedup and some where not which further leads me to believe the hood never has been repainted.

Is the Corrosion Warranty different than the Select Edition? When I contacted FJT whenI bought the car I had a month or so left on SE warranty but since has expired.

Hey Bojangles, did you still have the SE warranty hence the dealer replaced the hood, or wereyou still within the limits of the Corrosion Warranty?

To date I have not contacted Jaguar about this yet, or any dealer. I wanted to get some facts first before I walked into the dealer about this problem.

I ran across this from Jaguar that states Corrosion Warranty is 6 years and Unlimited Mileage.

So I guess since my car was built and sold in 2001 I am out of luck!!!

I think it goes off of when the car was initally bought not by the build date. Yeah that rust is in the same spot.

I'm screwed too! I was showing the car to a guy Sunday and we went to go on a test drive I was already sitting in the passenger side and than he goes to shut his door and bam it just slams! I was like GREAT!!! Needless to say the door wouldn't shut as the door handle on the outside was stuck up. I called jag and my se was up yesterday and that the dealer down here said chances are its the rod that was bad not any of the stuff that jag of troy replaced. Guy said it would be around 250-300 to fix it...damn as if I'm not losing money to sell the dang thing...[:'(]

Enough ranting on my part good luck with the rust...
