I know it's a long shot but I'll give it a go anyway

My 2004 x type estate has started going into safe mode whenever I go up a hill, I pull over turn the ignition on and off and away I go, it's fine then until I meet another hill. At the same time this started happening i noticed my power steering fill bottle empty, I topped I up and now find i have a fluid leak, not gushing just enough to leave a bit of a mess on the drive. So here comes the question could the leaking power steering system be putting my car into safe mode ???

i should've added, when it goes into safe mode I get no indication of it on the dash, the engine managment icon doesn't come on,
