Default Self Leveling Headlamps

I've always been curious - why do my xenon headlamps need to "self level" every time I start the car?

How do they get unlevel?

I think, so they can charge you more when purchasing the car and if the lights need serviceing. All kidding aside I think for when you have to much or too little air in your tiree, if you load your trunk with heaviness the leveling keeps you from blinding oncoming cars

As said its to tell the car where the level is so they dont dazzle oncoming drivers.
