shipping across country
I purchased a used Jag and may need to ship across country from California to New York. Does anyone have any recommendations on companies, precautions with shipping, etc? Thanks.
I'm assuming it runs right? That's a big plus. I'd suspect you'll pay around $1000 to get it shipped depending on how up state you are and if you're going door to door or through a terminal shipper. I had my TVR shipped from Alamoso CO to Lancaster PA one thing I can tell you do not use a broker but rather an actual shipper. Do not give money up front (unless it is through a service like www.uship.com and paypal. Be reasonable but honest on dates for pick up. Do not let them do an open ended contract. In the end it took me nearly 2 months to get mine picked up. Alamoso is in the middle of nothing! 1 car dealership in 50 miles. I ended up after getting the run around even offering up to $1500 for pick up going with www.uship.com it is kind of an ebay for shipping stuff. A retired guy with an enclosed trailer picked it up and delivered it in 3-4 days from the contract. Granted it cost me $2k but it was well worth it as I knew it was safe. Just don't do a book it now as the brokers will pounce on it and once they have a contract they are in no hurry to get it picked up. Funny thing about commission sales. Now if it is a nice expensive Jag and you want to go my route, the guy who brought my TVR I would highly recommend. His name on there is Tagalongramps
A buddy of mine is doing the reverse. He is using http://www.dasautoshippers.com/
From NJ to Cali its costing $1200..
Fedex has enclosed car trailers but it costs $2500 to ship!!!
