In a car chat forum, you are going to get every dissatisfied customer on the planet. You are also going to get an opinion from responsable people that take good care of their car that tell you its a great machine.

The most important thing is whether the car has had a good owner and a good history. I would go and have the VIN number put into a car history check .
I would have a Jag dealership do a complete check on the car and ask the tech's what they think.
My experience with the car have been mosley positive. Any car has its trouble areas.
But don't all cars?

I also would have preferred to have gotten a 3.0 liter engine in this car. I don't really think my 2.5 is big enough for that car. Just my opinion.

I have had my x type for about 2 years now. I have done nothing but routine oil changes and replace the starter motor. If you care for your car and maintain it properly you should not run into any problems.

i agree with Jaggyx, i own a 2004 x type 3.0, and was owned by a jag fanatic (collector of 6 jags), therefore the best advise I can tell u, is find out everything (history of the car and how it was maintained). Mine was never winter driven, use synthetic oil and it maintained like a real kitty....

Count me as one of the lucky ones too. I bought a 2005 with 21,000 miles on the clock in Jan 2009. 16 months and 11,000 miles later, I've had zero issues.

Based on research I did prior to purchasing my car, it seems that late 2004+ cars have far fewer problems than the earlier models.

Why would a google my car, when I already have it and have experience the (zero) problems? Maybe you didn't do your research and bought a lemon?

I'm one of the SUPER lucky ones because I own an '02, which is one of the problem ones, and haven't had much of any problems after 100,000 kms. Many less problems than I anticipated knowing what I knew before buying anyways. Maintenance makes a big difference. The maintenance costs really are only slightly more than any "regular" car. I've still got lot's of dough in my "fix kitty fund" that I had thought I would have spent by now if I would have given sufficient credence to naysayers. The experience of owning a Jaguar makes the whole difference to me. But, I've always wanted to be a Jag owner.

Anyone want to buy jonre's X-Type (quickly) so we can stop hearing how unhappy he is and he can stop replying to EVERY X-Type thread with the same type of comment?

From my work experience i would not buy an Xtype. Have you looked at the other models like XJ's perhaps.

I have a 02 which is the first model year. The only thing other than oil changes that I have had to replace was the prop shaft. Other than that no issues and I would highly recommend this car.
