So I did my transfer case oil today..
Pretty straight forward.
I jacked the car up, put it on stands, removed the plug, and lowered the drivers side to facilitate the draining. I raised the drivers side back up, threw the jackstand under the rocker panel and pulled out the drain pain. Guess how much gear oil was in the pan?
None.
NONE.
Not a drop. There wasn't much material on the magnetic part of the drainplug, though. I refilled with Royal Purple 75w140 and went for a drive. The car feels a bit different, but nothing remarkable. I hope this thing makes it till spring time...

Hey Bo,
Do you think you can send me that hose and filler valve thing that you used so I can do mine?
And just had a couple other questions...
What is the fluid that we are supposed to use and is it until its full or 600ml??
And do you HAVE to flush it?
now I really want to do mine..
lol

310, is it possible you need to pump it out rather than let it drain? I'm closing in on 60K miles on an X that lived half it's life in Arizona. I'm afraid there may not be anything in there but too chicken to drain and fill myself. Is there anyone with a long term run (5000 miles or more) on the Royal Purple that can say it's been as good as the mystery Jag fluid?

Royal Purple would be great in this case..It's out there, I'm too lazy to find it...But Royal Purple Gear Oil has some kind of additive that helps resurface and repair scorn gear surfaces..I don't know if can have a big affect on badly damage gears..but it would be the best at least if it worked a little to help maintain and extend the life of the gears..
RedLine is awesome stuff too...I would use this In a TC that was in good condition to begin with..that's just my logic..So it ain't gospel.

hi ... well now I want to re-do mine also. I have my thing here, and was thinking of draining my oil, just to see how much is missing after about a year.
I have the week off and I am up at out cottage.. with a big heated - empty garage!! also nobody here so I can putter away at my leisure. I will take a look at my leaking seal too.
McJaguar, If you ever feel like telling us about changing the RH seal..... I am all ears.
If all goes well I can send out my thing to you guys next week.

That is really nice of Bo..I knew he had it in him..
But I'm guessing his do-hicky will work with Manual trannies really well..I have an Auto and there was a difference in the room I had to work with and had to make a shorter nipple plug to fit in the fill hole on the TC..
So, this is just a heads up, on there is adifferences between the auto and manual trannies and the way the TC mates up...

RE: So I did my transfer case oil today..
Let me get this right. Our transfer cases only take 600 ml (just over a pint of fluid) and it is 75W-140 fluid. I am looking to do mine here shortly and want to make sure. The electronic owners manual I have says nothing about the transfer case when it comes to maintenance and the JTIS CD that I have doesn't talk about the transfer case either. WTF? So, I am a little leary to start draining the fluid. But, supposedly the fill plug is on top of the transfer case.I plan on measuring the fluid that comes out to make sure that I know atleast the minimum that needs to go back in. But, I also suspect that I have a very small leak under my car (get a small black circle under the car occasionally and I can see where the center of the engine has some fluid running down it from over time).
I question the amount because it seems like a very little bit to me. Granted, I am used to a full size SUV that takes 3+ quarts.

As so many people have had soo many problems and replacements its pretty obvious that its not though[&:]
600ml is the correct amount

RE: So I did my transfer case oil today..
just drained my TC 10 months (and 22000 km) later... and there was about 400ml in there.
The good news is that it still had some oil..
Bad news..
the leak needs fixing.
The oil was dark again with a lot of stuff on the magnetic plug
Dropping the TC might be easy.... but so far step one *remove exhause pipe* is challenging me...
I do sure wish that McJaguar would post his info about the RH shaft seal.
