Default So I took my X to a Specialist about my clutch...

And he found a few other problems...

It is in fact the clutch that's going bad. It's slipping, but apparently is has enough life left in it to get me back and fourth to work for a while until I pony up the cash to get it fixed.

It has a coolant leak that I've known about, but I already bought the hose to repair that problem. It's the big *** plastic/rubber radiator hose.

Front Struts - I'll get to those eventually before the year is out.

CV Boot leak - easy fix, I'll get to this before it starts that infamous clicking.

But other than that, It's fine

Oh yea, clutch is $1900. Parts are $450. I'm gonna take it to a good side shop because i'm not paying $2k for a clutch job.

Good job mate. 2k for a clutch is like paying too much for car insurance. Might as well go to Geico.com Now are you sure that $450 is the cheapest you could find the clutch at? I'd try searching just a bit more.
I know this is used, but I think if it'll solve your problems for another 50K miles.

You'll also need an alignment tool to have it aligned as the pressure plate is torqued down, might as well get new tranny fluid while you're at it, and that's it. I would bid with confidence since he's only had 3 negative feedback in the last year. 1, the dude didn't pay and is no longer a registered user. 2, item was damaged during shipping(believe me, a clutch won't brake during shipping), and the 3rd I couldn't find. Plus, that clutch looks like it's in good condition.

The only thing you have to think about though spartan is when do you plan on getting rid of the car? If you have over 100k miles you think you'll get rid of it before you hit 200k? If you are going to keep if for another few thousand and get rid of it I'd do the used one...you plan on keeping it beyond 150k I'd get a new one because the labor seems to be the huge cost in it...say you find someone to do it for 600 for labor for whatever clutch you want...well you hang onto the car and than it goes in another 30k to 50k you have to spend another 600 for labor and more for another clutch...seems smarter to me to get the new one and not worry about it but that is my take on it...plus when you sell you can give them receipts that the clutch was recently replaced and should last another 100k miles and not say yeah it was used...plus maybe this other shop can give you a cheaper price on the clutch itself...not to mention most shops charge more for labor if you want to use your parts and not theirs...

I'll get rid of the car within the next 70-100k i'm sure. I do a lot of urban driving so I may get the new one. But I tell you this is tooooo tempting for $75.

I'm not completely sure whether this will work, because I'm sure I have heard something about the clutch being different between 02-03 and 04-05?? Can anyone confirm?

In that case get the new one so you don't have to worry about it! If you were getting rid of it in the next 50k I'd get that one but I don't know any specifics about the clutches or years that would work...sorry...hey try jag_genius in the for sale section he may be able to help you out! He gave me 100 bucks per shock for my x in the rear and those are sport shocks...like 30 bucks cheaper than anywhere else...
