So I wento the dealer to check my brakes
When I went to get my wheel aligned, they told me I had about 5,000 miles left on my brake pads, this wasa monthago. I went to a different dealer to check my suspension and they told me I had about 15,000 miles left on my brake pads. How can there be such a big difference? I bought my 2006 x type brand new and I now have 23,500 miles on it. Just curious, when did you guys have to replace your brake pads?
Also, anybody else have problems getting their steering wheel centered? The car tracks okay, but the steering wheel is not centered, any body know the process of how the technicans check the wheel alignment?

64XXX on stock bosch pads and still at 25-35% wear left. I am not the easiest on them either. As far as the steering wheel goes...they need to center the steering wheel and lash it and adjust the tierods to center instead of adjusting the tierods off reference.

Not the same vehicle, but I have 20,000+ on my new pads, and the dealer just put a note on my service ticket that they looked recently serviced due to the pad thickness. lol
Really, it depends on your driving style, the type of pads you have, and what the 'inspector' deems a safe thickness on your actual pads. I would just wait until you start to hear those indicators, then change them. It could be either of those estimates they gave ya.

Then when you went to the 2nd dealer he thought you were older and drove more carefully so guessed your brakes would last much longer

You really need to jack up your car and take a wheel off. then measure the pad thickness. It is about as simple as a car repair activity can be.
If you are not able to do that... then you are at the mercy of an industry that for the most part has no scruples...

So I finally got a third opinion on the brake pads from a friend of a friend who has a garage, looks like I have a good amount left, around 15,000 miles give or take.
So Ray Catena tells me it takes 2 hrs to do a wheel alignment. Is that accurate? couldve sworn it only takes around 30 minutes ...
