Default So im on the freeway and my car loses throttle.

I notice the red gear fault light(gear with exclamation point in it) turns on. The is still running but is in safe mode.
So i pull over turn it off, let it sit for about 5 minutes turn it back on and im good to go..

Any thoughts? Im assuming its one of the throttle sensors but not sure which one. or if its going to get worse.

1. Always tell us what year and model that you have.
2. You can look for the DTC or trouble codes by calling the auto parts stores and see which ones will read the codes for you and some are free and others charge.
3. Jags have had a problem with water getting into the Throttle Position Sensor's plug and giving problems. If you get a P0121 code then that's probably it.

Yea sorry, its a 03 x-type 2.5... thanks sidewalkman.

No trouble codes tho, just that red light that turned off as soon as i restarted the car. You might be right Mike, im near Seattle and its been raining non stop for weeks. maybe a collection of moisture shorted out the sensor.

Im worried that i will happen again, but without knowing which sensor im not sure what to look for.

Think i should spray throttle cleaner in there?
I have a K&N air filter, i keep it clean.. not sure if that matters.

I would bet it is likely DCS related, but if it cleared without storing a code, sounds like a moisture glitch. I'd only worry if it came back, and I'm up in Vancouver enjoying your same weather. I remember having the TCM issues early on and I alway felt like I was waiting for the other shoe to drop.

That has happened to me on a couple of roadtrips. Well be rolling down the freeway on cruse and then ill do something like hit the brake or shut cruse off and itll go into safe mode. Not sure what the root problem is but I figured it was something in the computer logic caused an error. Same thing though. Wait a couple minutes and strart it up and everything works fine.

Exactly JagMN, i was on the freeway with the cruse control on.
UPDATE: so its been working fine since, but now im hearing a loud hum coming from the throttle body when the ignition is on or standby or what ever its called. Im not sure if i hear that before. I only noticed it a few days later when i had the hood up.

are you sure it's not the blower motor or the fuel pump you hear?

I'm not sure what the noise could be from. My baby jag purrs like a champ yet. I've never had any major problems before or since the incidents. Good luck though!
