Sometimes it might pay to go to the dealers!

Sometimes it might pay to go to the dealers!
See here's a recent example of where a lesson can be learnt.
My X-Type developed a slight oil leak (as you may already know) and I took it to two independent repair centres for a quotation.
One said the rear crank seal was at fault and that the most cost effective repair was to have a new clutch etc fitted whilst also replacing the seal. (the cars approaching70K so thisseemed to make some sense).
However, the second garage diagnosedthe oil sump/pan (gasket) was leaking andquoted a similar price to replace this item only.
I decide to have the local Jaguar dealer look at the car and they came back with two things:
1. Of far greater importance was a slight leak from the water pump - requiring immediate attention to avoid serious problems associated with ingress of coolant into the clutch housing...
2.Front crank seal leaking (can be replacedin-situ).
Again, estimate very similar in price to bothindependent repair centres....
So, I reckon on this occasion it has paid off to have the 'experts' undertake the repair. They are the only ones to notice the leaking water pump and incidentally, the first of the two independents carried out the major service 2 weeks ago!
Food for thought!

what is in-situ? I have a feeling either my oil pan gasket is leaking or something...not sure but when I did an oil change wednesday I noticed the oil pan below where it mounts to the engine is soaked in oil...not horribly soaked but wet all the same...

Hmmm...think I need to get this checked out...it may just be me but I'd rather not find out the hard way...last time I changed the oil was probably about 5-7k miles ago and there hasn't been a puddle or anything thats why I was shocked to see it under there...also my oil wasn't low either so it must have either just started or is very small???

Will do I'll keep you updated...I added pics of my hids and the hose issue I had...now I have that oil leak to take care of...the rear shocks, the front end noise and out of alignment....and lastly fix the headlight assembly now that I put those hids in my light on the passenger side is badly damaged...I'm thinking the car was in a accident at one point and time...

I don't think it's an accident thing quil. One of the guys in your HID's thread mentioned his never being in an accident, just that the headlight thingy is sensitive. Good luck and I'm sure that the puddle is insignificant, just because I know!
