Special couplings for AC Charge?

Special couplings for AC Charge?
I am trying to recharge my AC for a 2003 Jaguar X type, but somehow the connectors do not fit. I purchase the canister with an atachment hose and coupling.
In one of the other postings there is a note that "Special couplings" are needed.
Why is that and where can I get it?
Thanks,
Saul

The fittings are standard AC fittings used in cars these days. The recharge
kit sold by auto parts places will work. Are you sure that you are
looking at the correct connectors for the AC? They are against
the firewall on the passenger side of the car. On my car the large
cable was blocking one fitting and I had to push it away.
The type of fitting did change when they changed from R12 Freon.
That was quite a few years ago, long before the X-type.
If your fittings do not attach properly then you probably have an old unit.
Pete.
