Could I have some help with a starting issue. I have had the famous X Type battery light problem for a while and will change the earth cable. The car has had intermittent starting issues and when I connected a battery pack the car would start. I charged the battery reconnected and then all I got was a clunk noise when I tried to start the car. I connected a error code reader and got a transmission error code. I moved the gear change leaver around and after a few attempts the car started. I tried a restart and after 4 tries more clunking the car started again, I cleared error codes and took car for a spin and went through the same restarting process same results and error code came back.
Could it be the earthing issue or a starter motor on its way out?

Jeffre - Have the amperage checked out on the battery. You could have a bad battery cell. The battery will show 12v, but the amps will be too low to turn the starter.
