Default Steering noise turning

When turning left and right I hear a thunk, thunk, thunk, thunk from the front. It's not very loud and only seems to happen after 15-20mph. It doesnt do it over bumps just when turning on a smooth road. I was thinking maybe top strut mounts but I couldn't make it do the noise when the car was stationary and turning the wheel. Been suggested could be CV joints or wheel bearing but it's not a clicking noise like worn CV joints normally make. Any suggestions please?

Well I'll answer my own question, it was a snapped spring and I had great fun changing it!
