Hi guys.

Looking for some help and information. I am looking to change the steering wheel on my 04 X Type. I have seen this wood/leather steering wheel for sale with the controls but no air bag. I do not have any controls on my existing steering wheel and I was wondering if I can remove the controls and fit my existing air bag into this steering wheel ???

Visually it appears that even removing the controls you existing air bag would not fit. The spoke design and fitment are dimensionally different. Additionally you will probably find the mounting holes are different between the 2 air bags.

So you have an early 04 and the other is from later 04 or later MY, you can replace the whole steering assembly, but not just air bag and the controls.
