Strange rattle when in gear
3.0 AWD 2004
Posted a while ago about a minor rattle i was hearing only during certain RPM ranges. The rattle has continued and now become more consistent. Nothing noticeable in driving or acceleration and doesn't seem to happen at higher speeds in excess of 60MPH. Anyone have any thoughts. I will try and get a video clip together.

Sounds like a good one. Does the sound seem like it's coming from the inside or outside. Try rolling down the windows while driving or while the car is idle and listen to the car from the outside. One time I had a snapple bittle under my seat that would rattle against the rails and drove me nuts fordays.
Hmmm when i roll down the windows i don't hear it outside, i will try pulling up to my garage and see if i can hear it bounce off the door. It happens will idling in gear and stop the second i pop it into neutral. Could very well be an interior noise as it only happens when in gear which creates more vibration then in neutral. What is a bittle? I'll check it out, possible having someone else rev the engine and ill walk aroudn and listen.
bottle - oops! we need a spell checker, haha.
Check the exhaust, there may be some kind of shroud on the cat that may be loose.
By the way - Welcome to the forums. Do you have any pictures posted of your X? I am new here, I just purchaed a 2003 X back in August.

I'll put up some soon, she needs a bath and clay bar, badly. Could use some new shoes as well. Eventually new exhaust but gonna try and keep her fairly bone stock as I think its perfect as is
Take it to a Jag quailfied service place and have it put up on a lift and have someone start and put it in gear (Parking Brake and brakes applied) and listen to it that way..it's the only way it can be pinned down as to what is making the noise.
The 03 X Type I had did the same thing. Dealer found that the torque convertor was coming loose. Took them about 4 hours to fix it. With the car idling and the hood up, you could hear the rattle down low where the engine bolts to the tranny housing.
