Sudden Stalling Update
A few months ago we had a sudden stalling issue with our 2003 3.0 X Type. After a week of looking up the tailpipe or whatever, the dealer suddenly decided that a new throttle body would fix it and tried to present me with a whopper of a bill. Jaguar customer service intervened and to their credit covered the work. In August the condition returned with a vengence. This time, when it stalled it wouldn't restart. I called Jag again and got them involved in the return of the car to the dealer. After consulting with Jag Tech Support the dealer hooked up a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail and taped the gauge to the windshield. One day after two weeks of nothing, one of the dealer's personnel was driving it when the fuel pressure started dropping going and promptly stalled. No re-start so they towed it back to the shop. Working quiickly this time they found power and ground at the pump but no pump action. This time they replaced the fuel pump, filter and re-flashed the computer with an update. Car is running better than ever and we're keeping our fingers crossed that this is the permanent fix as we really love the car otherwise.
I continue to be impressed ( wowed is more like it) with Jaguar Customer Support. I got a call from the Customer Service Rep in New Jersey yesterday afternoon after she noticed that the case had been closed out by Jag Tech Support. She wanted to get a few details on the repair and make sure everything was working right. I don't know if this is SOP with Jaguar or if I just got lucky, but I have NEVER had this kind of intervention and follow through from any manufacturer ever. Also, as a result of their involvement, the level of care and fairness at the dealer shot up dramatically. I think this is a huge plus when considering purchasing a Jaguar, knowing that you have somebody to turn to that can actually make a difference for you. Great job Jaguar, and I hope that new ownership doesn't change this.
