Default Suspension parts list

So, having finally had it with the bouncing and the rattling and the squeaking, I've decided to start addressing the suspension on my '04 X-Type 3.0. I tend to dislike doing things in half measures, so I'd like to pick an end (front/rear) and get all the parts I'll need to do a full overhaul of the suspension. Trouble is, I've yet to come across a comprehensive list of parts I'd need to pick up. Can anyone point me to such a list/document/whatever? If not, does anyone know off-hand what I'd need to make this happen? I'm thinking I'd prefer to do the rear first as it makes the most noise. Thanks!

jjbuck, when I did my front end, I did the following things:

-struts
-strut bearings
-outer tie rod ends
-front wheel bearings

For the rear, I would do the following:

-shocks
-upper control arms (getting upgraded/adjustable arms from a Volvo S40 is recommended)
-lower/forward arm
-rear wheel bearings

This will take care of most of the problems that you may run across. Ify ou need more specifics, let me know

Thermo, thank you. That's a great start. Anywhere in particular you'd suggest for picking up the Volvo upper control arms?

Hi guys, I've wanted to replace all the rubber bushings in the front suspension. Do you have any info on the names, how many there are. I think one is called the Carrier bushing(s).

Thanks!

Search eBay for "adjustable control arm" & "Mazda" or "focus" or "Volvo". Here's one example for $75 a pair delivered:

Patterson, the only rubber bushings that I am aware of that you can change are the ones on the sway bar (call sway bar bushings). All the others are formed as part of the component and are not replaceable. With that being said, could one carve out the bushings from the factory a-arms and find something that will work. Of course. But, for the work required, it is simply easier to replace the whole unit.

The only rubber bushings I can think of on the front end of the car are the ones on the lower control arms and then the ones on the sway bar. You do have a sound isolation piece on the top of the strut, but that is part of the strut bearing.

Did you replace these items because you had it apart, or are they possible culprits to the various noises?

HObbs, I did the front wheel bearings and outer tie rod ends more as preventive than to fix an issue. Yes, I was having issues with a front end wobble between 55 and 70 mph. After getting all the front suspension parts replaced, the wobble was still there (granted, not quite as bad). That was when I got new tires put on and found out that both of my front rims were slightly bent (had the local tire shop put on new tires and asked them to do a trueness check).

I never replaced the rear wheel bearings on my car. This is my thought when it comes to a part like that: If you are already in there and you have lots and lots of miles on them (say over 150K miles), then spend the extra little bit now to prevent having to go in later and having to pay for the labor to pull it all apart again.

I've been using the PDF file I downloaded from here and am going to be calling someone today.

Is there a particular person I should speak with who handles forum members questions and buys?

I think I read somewhere that as a forum member we can get a decent discount on parts purchased through you. Is that still an option?
