TC case flsuh
I recently checked with my dealer to see if they would do a TC case flush. I don't have the time or know-how to do the job. They told me it would be a 13+ hour job at minimum if they do it. Keep in mind this is just a flush. Is that right? He also told me it’s a bad idea. I have a 02 automatic x-type with 124K on it now.
I assume that the dealer quoted you to actually remove the TC from the car. Search this form, there are ways to replace the TC case fluid by working through the drain plug. TC's do lose the fluid over time (there's very little to begin with) and they do fail as a result. When they fail you're then looking at 13 hours of a shop time and a few thousand for a new TC.
OK, sorry I thought you were actually looking for some help.
I can get the TC out of my car in about 3 hours, in my garage, no hoist, lying on my back, taking it apart is another hour MAX, then maybe an hour to clean everything for re-assembly. then put everything back .. 8 hours at home... they are crooks for quoting 13 hours.
Plus even according the the Jag manuals, a fluid change in the TC does nto require removing the TC... sheesh
Now for the poster.. although your name says newbie... you have been around long enough to see the FAQ, do your search on this for more info that you could ever ask for.

@ tony- I was just claryifying what I asked the dealer. That comment wasn't pointed at you as an attack.

I paid $55 to get my transfer case drained and filled at my local Jaguar specalist. The dealership quoted me a price of $250 BUT in no way did they say it was a 13hr job.
Maybe they thought you meant TC replacement?

That's pretty quick since FLUSHING usually requires the TC to be drained and filled a few times with running the car with the wheels up to circulate the fluid prior to draining it.

They drained and filled it with this stuff (synthetic gear oil with detergents), ran the car for about 1KM, returned drained the crap and pumped in new stuff. Every shop worth .10 has pumps for all their fluids. We went through the recommended fluid list and used the castrol synthetic stuff.
