Default Temperamental Cabin Blowers (Climate Control Fans)

In my 2005 x-type I've got the climate control with the LCD screen.
When the CC is first turned on it refuses to blow air through the main "face" vents in the dashboard.
If I follow the magic combination, (Lo, Hi, Lo, Face, Floor, Face, Def) then back to Face, the air comes out just fine and works until I turn off the CC or ignition.
When I turn the CC back on it's back to not working again.

Any ideas? There are no funny noises or anything, just the noise of the air director moving as I cycle through the settings, and a sudden whoosh of air out the dash once the sequence is complete.

I've tried disconnecting the battery to reset the system - no joy.

I don't know if this is related, but the external air temperature is registering too high. Is this linked, or just a red herring?

Thanks in advance.

Default Update

Hey all, been doing my homework and turns out it's most likely the air blend flap, and I've found a great step by step guide to fix this.
only problem is the guide is for lhd and mine is rhd.
The guide says the steppers and the air blend flap motor control is all accessible from behind the glove box. Anyone know if this is reversed in a rhd, or do I need to start pulling up carpet in the driver footwell?

Contact Thermo, I read a really good write up on this from him. Or do a search on his posts (1,000's, lol) to find it.
