Thermostat climbs to 1/2 Point (Help)
I start the car and within 2 mins the thermostat is at the 1/2 way point and stays there cold or hot, no diff. Driving hot does not seem to over heat, my gut says it is a bad stat, or sensor.
This is a 2.5 L 2002 X Type
Any ideas are appreciated

sounds ok to me. mine acts similar, before and after replacing the water pump, t-stat, t-stat housing and various hoses. took it to a professional for a leak. imho, if its not leaking or overheating dont trip. if you got a couple extra dollars and/or some spare time it never hurts to get it checked or just switch whats old anyways so its never a problem
Some cars seem to "lie" and show a mid range temp regardless of reality. BMWS are bad for this. You could confirm this if you know someone with a laptop OBDII reader. It displays actual water temp, not what your gauge shows.
jagone, that's exactly what your gauge will read like. Most of us report just a tick under mid point all the time. Are you worried about or have any symptoms of overheating?
I was not all that worried about overheating as much as a thermostat or sensor that was bad, drove it 30 miles from the time I started it, it jumped up to a tick under halfway, with no issues, engine noise, computer shutting down ac, and it was an 80 degree day, so if it was going to happen it would have then. Just do not recall my other 2.5 doing that, but then the wife drove it more than I did.
