Time for a change?
That autocrossing was sweet...that 99up gt almost beat that contour what was up with that? I thought that 3.0 turbo would have stomped on the 4.6! I'm gonna get a video of me accelerating to top speed in the jag sometime...
On the autocross video he pretty much kept the car in second the whole time right? He use the clutch at all or just ***** to the wall keep the car rolling? It wasn't you right?

Jim- Well, if it is, then it should be a handling queen.
Aquill- Lol! Nah wasn't me. I wish I could drive like that, but then again, even if I could, I wouldn't be putting my car through that much hell. He may have shaved off a sec from downshifting to first, but from the layout of the course, it would be tough. Definitely a good course to have a slushbox on.
The silver svt (onboard camera) was the 2.5L turbo, racing the pontiac. IIRC, the svt had 135k miles on her, too. The engine has since grenaded, and he's working on a 3L swap. (Those GTPs are friggin' fast down straight lines. I wouldn't mess with them. Now on a curve, it's downright ridiculously slow!) Boosting and throwing a 3L is insane on the Contour...we can't put that much power down. The culprit is the chasis and drivetrain. I believe the highest horsepower is around ~480fwhp, and even with that nobody has broken the 12's on a Contour, at least on the forum. IIRC, best quarter mile is 13.1 or so.
That's why I'd love to get a junked SVT w/bad engine ~$1500 and add a 3L for around $1000, and have a all-around nice car for under 3 grand, putting down ~190-200fwhp.

Handlings great ancient..............although its a quick car with plenty of low down torque it doesnt quite have the absolute electric responsiveness of a petrol for that kinda thing.

200 hp with that tiny car should do wonders! I hate front wheel drive though...[:-]

Jim
SO Jim So I see you bought the Mondeo, did you sell the jag yet. Well I guess I think i might be selling the jag also lol. Well see. I love driving stick alot more now. My maxima will beat my jag by about half a second I think. Thats what I saw on the stats on the car. Oh well.

Lol..........Its not that small honest ( same floorpan as the X ) decent family sized car!

The people that did the ECU remap said that whilst it added 40bhp it was the torque where the real gains where, around 120nm of torque added to the 295nm as standard if I remember correctly.
All in approx 40nm of torque

As I said with the FWD instead of AWD its really hard to put it all down. If you just floor it you can wheel spin in 1st 2nd and 3rd gears....lol
You really have to drive the car to get the absolute best outta it. Havin said that, b/c of the extra torque there is almost no turbo lag which means when driven normally ( Ie - by the wife
) it just gives smooth power on tap. She'll never ever realise its full potential.....Thats my job

Jim

S'ok Caddie mate...........wer'e all different and have different likes n dislikes .
Its got its pro's n con's just like everythin
Jim
Oh trust me, I know fwd is the culprit. Like I said, putting down that much power on FWD is crazy or rather a dyno queen. That's why I would never boost it. Even with measures like boost controlling and tunes, it's tough to put down all that power...As Jim said, you can easily roast the tires without much effort through the first few gears.
RWD is great, not so much when weather goes south. I've seen one too many stangs crash in bad weather. Which is why I like a fwd with a fair amount of power, nothing stupidly powerful, while still getting 25-28 mpg. I'm still in the school-phase of my life, so I have to watch my expenses; albeit fwd, it gets the job done.
Now If I could get the fuel efficiency Jim is getting with that much power, I'd be one happy guy!

+1 on that bud.
I seem to remember on Top Gear where they reckoned that the absolute max for a FWD car was 250bhp, obviously with all the best add ons to try and get the most grip possible outta that power.
Jim

Guys, check out this link below for some seriousssss detailing. I hope to have the Mondy booked in very soon and if so I'll try and get as many pics as possible.
Having said that when I spoke to Mathew earlier today he was talking about an appointment in Mid March
I'm trying to talk him into next week.....lol

Yep...that's the expensive package. However, unless they're measuring the depth of paint w/their calibrator, it isn't 'that' expensive.
Just for point of view, I believe those royal or whatever waxes cost upwards of a few grand!!! You're supposed to massage it in with your hand.
Stupid if you ask me, sure it's nice to keep your car clean, but the function of a car is to be driven....outside...as in, in the elements!
Shesh, I'd have a heart-attack driving that car outside after getting that done to it.

Lol.............I started reading your comments ancient, thinkin, withg a puzzled look on my face...." It says ALL that in the bloody post!!!"

I'm booked in for next Thursday at 8 am.......Its gonna take 10 hours.
I'm not getting the Royale wax as thats an extra £100.........Still gonna cost ££300 though and the wax that he'll use with be an excellent quality.
Lookin forward to the results

I'm gonna ask him if he can take some before n after pics an I'll post em up, that way I'll get to eventually post pics of hte" phantom car" that ancient doesn't believe I have!.....lol
Jim

Just as a side note
I'm gonna be sooo embarrassed
. The calipers as I said are in really bad shape, rusty and god awful lookin.I have the paint but won't have time to do it. I'm gonna try anf get some of that rust remover and paint it on. You know the stuff that turns the rust black and gives a sound base for painting. Not that I'm gonna paint over that, I'm gonna wire brush / sand them down first, but, just so that they don't look too bad. The rest of the car looks pretty good, well to me anyway.
Jim
Hmmm, that's not too bad. I though it would be a lot more expensive. Do they still measure the depth of your paint?
I recall seeing a similar process done on a new Vauxhall. Apparently, the car was like 20k and he spent upwards of 5/6k perfecting the paint, on an already new car.
You British folks are smokin' the pipe. Last I checked, it rains in England, too.
Jim, I still say you're crazy doing all that paint work on a Reliant!!
