Default timing belt or chain

hi there please bear with me as im new to this . well my dad has just bought a x type 2ltr diesel on a 2004 plate could anyone tell me if they have timing belt or a chain also if there is anything that he should look out for that could go wrong

biglee, the jag has a timing chain. So, unless you shut off the engine at a high RPM, the chain will be just fine.

As for problems with the X-Type, a lot of people have issues with the ABS system. Normally it is a bad sensor ring in the rear hubs. That requires a new hub to be installed. A lot of the other problems I am aware of deal with either the transfer case (which the diesel engines do not have since they are all 2wd to my knowledge) and vacuum leaks which would be specific to the petrol engines.
