Default tire recomendation

I've got the x type sport and its sitting on 18" BBS wheels. The tires that came with the car are starting to run low. it ssitll runs smooth but i would like to upgrade. I'm currentyl usin some cooper zeon 2Xs. which run fine but ive been looking at the new yokohamas to put on. does anyone else have 18s? and which tires are you riding on?

Welcome sugarcean,

I've got OZ superlegera 18's with 225 40 zr 18 toyo fz4's which are summer tires. Are you in an area that has bad winters? I lived in Michigan and the tires performed fine but I'd get some all-season tires if I were you. Do you have the stock 17's/aguillas?

My fz4's are quite loud so I'd steer clear of em. The general exclaim uhp gets really good reviews on tirerack. Actually that tire is one of the least expensive and yet it is ranked #2. One of my favorite brands is bfgoodrich, and the one's I wanted for my car were the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW-2 but I bought rims with tires. I've heard bad things about kumho tires so steer clear of those. Every person that replies has a different feel though so you'll probably get a barrage of recommendations.

Honestly with the jag I had summer tires and at that some tires that needed replacement and it was crazy the stuff I could get through with the jag. Some will argue that winter tires are less than expenses but driving to conditions also is cheaper than snow tires so it all varies. IMO I'd just buy some decent all season tires and call it a day.

Surely in Florida you don't need winter tires! I know I don't need them here in Texas at all!

I know i don't have 18" wheels like you do, but i just ordered the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Seasons for my 17" wheels on my 05 X-Type. They should arrive tomorrow from tire rack and i am going to hopefully get them installed tomorrow. I will let you know what i think of them. Keep in mind my car still has the original Continental ContiTouring Contacts on it. So that is all i have had experience with on this car.

Well the tires are on the car. I have to say it is an amazing improvement. Corners i used to take at 35 MPH i can take at 50-55 MPH. These tries have great grip. The road noise doesn't seem like it is any worse than the stock tires and they ride smoother in my opinion. I really like the way they feel on the car. Wet handling is great as well.

back a few years ago(about 10) i had a 95 t-bird. the tires on there sucked. real slick in the rain, and were supposed to be good ones. i broke down and spent some money, like twice as much as what i had on there, on some michelen. BIG difference, they grabbed the road and didn't let go.think when i have to change them on the jag i may do it again. got toyo on there now. there not to bad, little noise.

I have to get two front tires this week. I have 17's right now. Can I easily move to the 18's? I thinking about Michelen.

I need All Seasons....it's hot in the summmer (105 today) and snowy in the winter.

18's need 225 40 18. Speed rating is your call...

Not too bad of a deal for the factory 17's. Although those tires would be useless for anyone when teh temp is above 40 or 50 degrees. Those winter tires would be eaten up in a week of driving.

So how do you like the new tires? One question your rear tires were they new? Cause if they weren't and they are worn you are going to want to replace those asap. With the AWD system in the car if you have tires that are worn differently from front to rear or left to right, you will put strain on your differential and transfer case cause premature wear and tear on your AWD system. What happens is the rear tires are actually slightly smaller in diameter than the fronts are now and they spin more revolutions than the front ones do meaning wear on the differential and transfer case.
