Default Tire size for 17ich wheels

I currently have aftermarket (MSR 068) 17inch wheels with 215/45/17 tires. The tires are extreme performance summer tires and I would like to replace them with more comfortable and quieter touring all-season tires. A friend of mine has just replaced his own tires with Hankook Optimo H727s, and I'm impressed by the lack of tire noise at highway speed. I'd like to order the same tires for my X-Type but they only come in 215/60/17 or 225/55/17. I know the tires would fit on the wheels, but would the wheels and tires fit on the car? Is 225/55/17 too much for the X-Type?

Default tire size calculator

I use this web site alot..depending on if your cars ride height is standard or if you have lowered it makes a huge difference.
Right now my right height is lower due to weak springs, which limits my tires, till I get the springs replaced.
I tried entering in the size you are looking for, I think it will be too big and wide, might scub the wheel wells..but check it out.
Hope that helps.

I don't think they would be too wide as I'm pretty sure I've seen 225 on X-Types before. It's mostly the height that scares me. Fortunately my X has standard suspension.

I really loved what I saw/heard from the Hankook Optimo H727. They are not very expensive and very quiet. Because I'd have to go 225/55 instead of 215/45 I guess it would make the ride even more comfortable. I need to do a lot of driving at highway speed in the next few weeks so I'm very tempted to try them even if they're not supposed to fit according to Jaguar specs.

Thanks for the reply btw

the 55 or 60 height will not fit. You will have to buy the 16" rims and tires

My summer tires are 225/45/17, at this point running 205/55/16 for the winter. This gave me almost the same size. The 16" work better in the winter I found. Looking to replace the summer shortly, due to the weak springs and lower rear control arm bushings, ate the inside of my tires...be sure to check that out before new tires. From what I've been finding out, common problem.

My 03 X has had two sets of 225/45R/17L Kumo. It has 137000 and I'm sure it's sagged a little too. Didn't have any problem UNTILL one of my family must have been turning left and hit what-ever and popped out the fender flare seam but didn't cut the tire but left a scuff on it. I just looked up the specs for ride height (frt-14.68"--RR-14.53" from center of wheel to Apex of fender arch--with full tank of gas).I'll check it soon
