Default Totaled the Jag

Hey guys, just wanted to say thank you for all the help. I may not have been the most active poster, but I read these forums three times a day and each and everyone of you were very helpful.

But I totaled my car Thursday night a mile from my house. I was going 80 in a 30, took a corner too sharp and pressed on the brakes. The minute my foot touched the brake the car just kind of lifted, went out of control and I hit a tree going about 60. Thankfully, no one was in the car with me and I was able to get out without a scratch thanks to the seatbelt. Paramedic said if I wasn't wearing it, I would have been launched through the windshield in a second and probably wouldn't have made it. On the down side though, I'm only 16 and a half, so my insurance rates are going to skyrocket and the insurance company isn't even giving me enough to pay off my loan.

But I hope the best for you all, and just remember to wear your seat belts!!! Things really do save lives.

Peace,

Alex Loiseau

The best thing to come out of this is you will learn early to not drive as fast.
Sorry about the wreck but also glad you were not injured.
Maybe down the road you may pick up another Jag. We will see you around.

On a like note, I have seen many cars pulled in that people have been ejected from without being so lucky. Found a hand under the passenger seat on one.
Please be safe in the future.

wow! Good to hear you are ok. I have had several buddys die only because they were driving too fast. Like FJT said " The best thing to come out of this is you will learn early to not drive as fast." Speed kills. I had another friend fall asleep and crash into an on coming truck. The top of his car was ripped off! The doctors said if he had been wearing his seat belt he would have died. I guess it is better to wear it but I thought it was kind of weird how his would have ended it all. I guess when it's your time, it's your time.

Hey Alex, sorry to hear bout your accident mate but glad you're ok. Seatbelts do save lives no ifs ands or buts about it.
Gotta be honest I drove around for years without one and had more than my fair share of accients, some really bad ones too, and was very very lucky. I now always wear mine....The little seat belt reminder is a real PITA but helps to educate you to wear it.

I've always heard people say...I've been driving for 15 years and never had an accident etc etc. Well IMO you're not really a driver until you've had you're first accident as you can learn so much from the experience.

Driving 80 in a 30 is never a good idea Alex....its 30 for a reason, and hopefully you've learned that lesson.

All the best and good luck

Jim

I am sorry but somebody has to say it. He is an idiot 80 mph in a residential zone?
There are enough places in areas where you can put your foot down. A 30 mph zone is not one of them.

Ah, the daring invincability of youth...I remember when I just got my DL a thousand tears ago..and the very first car I had was a Corvair convertible and I rolled that somebitch doing 60 or 70 around a curve on a residential street...Thankfully like yourself, I walked away from it with only two stitches in my *** cheek and a whole lot of *** chewing from my Dad...I still have nightmares about that accident...Hope this wised you up..good luck

Idiot??? You are right. However, thats a bit too harsh on the kid. If you were ever young, I'm sure you did some reckless things before. I didnt have a car at 16yrs old, but even when I had one at 19yrs old I did some reckless stuff. He sounds like he has learned a tough lesson without suffering any personal injuries or hurting others. I'm sure he knows how lucky he was.

I'll join others in saying wear you seatbelts. Especially if you like going fast

Oh no. Guy's I hope you don't think I was advising not to wear seatbelts. WEAR SEATBELTS! I was just telling a story I thought was weird. seatbelts save lives so do driving the correct speed for the road. I think everyone should go to race car school or that advance driving school. I think a big problem, it least here in the states is that we teach kids how to pass the driving test to get there liscense but don't teach them how to drive in real life situations. I think we need to rethink the driving training we teach our new drivers.

I want to do the driving school in colorado with porsche's in bad weather...that sounds like fun...

At least your ok but keep in mind it's 30 for a reason. Hopefully a lesson was learned! Hopefully you get another jag...Did you try arguing with the insurance company as to what they should be paying out on it? We argued about my dads ram that was totalled from a drunk driver rear ending him and he got nearly 30grand when they were only going to give 20k.

You're right, I was being an idiot. I was a mile from my house on a fairly empty road, and I felt invincible. Like everyone said, I'm lucky and learned my lesson fast. I've actually looked into the BMW advanced driving school. Their track looks amazing and the whole program looks like a lot of fun.

Haha, I know. I got to see what the insurance companies going to throw at me, but most likely I'm going to be carless for a while.
