Default traction control light illuminated

hello everyone! i have recently bought an 04 baby jag and the traction control light is constantly illuminated. It does have the button in front of the cupholders but pressing it does nothing as far as i can tell. today while driving my wife said that she went through some loose sand and the car automatically slowed at an exceptional rate but only momentarily until she was passed the sand. is this typical for an all wheel drive traction control system? i also noticed after i bought it and brought it home that it has an oil leak that i think is coming from the front left driveshaft output seal. could that have something to do with it?

if there is anything wrong with the dynamic stability control (DSC) then you would get a message on the LCD saying something like that. Pressing the DSC button is a toggle - press once for on, and again for off. Turning it on and off also gives you a DSC Off or DSC On message on the LCD.

I think DSC works by applying braking when it detects wheel spin, so the correction on the sand would be expected. When you hit sand its like hitting a puddle - the car slows and pulls to that side. if it didn't pull at all or not much, that's DSC at work.
